Black Eyed Peas é um grupo de pop que começou seu trabalho em Los Angeles em1988, e desde então conquistaram muitos fãs por todo o globo. Estima-se que já venderam 30 milhões de discos em todo o mundo.

Tudo começou, em Los Angeles em 1988, quando Will.i.am e Apl.de.Ap se conheceram na adolescência e fundaram um grupo de dança break, o Tribal Nation. Depois de um certo tempo, decidiram parar de apenas dançar e começar a cantar. Daí nasceu oA.T.B.A.N. Klann, com o qual Will e Apl assinaram um contrato com a Ruthless Records, Eles gravaram um CD chamado Grass Hoots, que foi lançado mas com pouquissimo sucesso, com o selo do rapper Eazy E, e acabaram sendo ofuscados pelo gangsta rap, um estilo musical que se expandia muito naquela época. Qualquer chance de sucesso na Ruthless se desvanesceu quando Eazy-E morreu de AIDS, em 1995.

Will e Apl repensaram tudo e fundaram o Black Eyed Peas, agora com o amigo de festas e companheiro, o MC e dançarino Taboo. Três anos depois, o grupo de hip hop acrescentou a backing vocal Kim Hill e lançou seu primeiro álbum, Behind the Front(1998), que teve participação da cantora Macy Gray.
O sucesso do BEP não ia além do mundo hip hop de Los Angeles, até que o segundo álbum, Bridging the Gap (2000), atraiu mais atenção graças a participação de grandes estrelas do hip-hop como Wyclef Jean e, novamente,Macy Gray.

O sucesso foi tanto que o grupo ficou um ano e meio em turnê mundial, passando pelo Brasil em julho de 2004, e gravando um novo álbum, denominado Monkey Business, durante os intervalos da viagem.Mas o estouro mundial viria em 2003, quando o álbum Elephunk foi lançado, com a entrada da vocalista Fergie, substituindo Kim Hill. A entrada de Fergie na banda foi curiosa. Na turnê de Bridging the Gap,chamaram-na para cantar no palco. A loira subiu e soltou a voz, o que agradou muito os fãs. Nisso,Kim Hill acabou desistindo. O primeiro single do álbum, Where is the Love, contou com a participação do astro Justin Timberlake e ganhou vários discos platina e ouro em alguns países. Também mostraram seu gosto pelo Brasil na canção "Sexy", que usa samples de "Insensatez", umabossa nova de Tom Jobim.

O Brasil voltou as atenções do grupo em 2006, quando gravaram juntamente com Sérgio Mendes a música Mas que nada, um estouro na Europa, se tornando musica tema da Copa do Mundo FIFA na Alemanha no mesmo ano.

Em Junho de 2009, o grupo lançou um novo álbum, The E.N.D, (Energy Never Dies), com os singles Boom Boom Pow e I Gotta Feeling onde ambos alcançaram o 1# lugar na Billboard Hot 100.
A The END World Tour começará em Setembro no Japão.


Carreiras Solo
Atualmente, Fergie entrou em carreira solo com o lançamento do CD The Dutchess e seu primeiro single, "London Bridge", estourou nas paradas de sucesso e chegou a #1 na Billboard Hot 100, desbancando o hit Promiscuous da rival, Nelly Furtado. "Fergalicious", segundo single do CD, alcançou o segundo lugar na parada mais importante da música, a Billboard Hot 100, perdendo apenas para "Irreplaceable", de outra musa do hip-hop, Beyoncé. O hit seguinte, "Glamorous", conseguiu chegar ao topo da Billboard e permanecer por algumas semanas nessa posição. O quarto single, lançado em Abril de 2007, foi "Big Girls Don't Cry", e foi o single de maior destaque do álbum, alcançando o topo de várias paradas no mundo e foi eleita pela Billboard a música mais tocada de 2007. O quinto e último single foi "Clumsy", música fez muito sucesso no Brasil e nos EUA.

Will.i.am também voltou a trabalhar em sua carreira solo, que ele havia começado desde seu primeiro álbum, Lost Change, lançado em 2001. O novo álbum se chama Songs About Girls e teve 3 singles: "I Got It From My Mama", "Heartbreaker", e "One More Chance".

Taboo também pretende lançar um disco solo, intitulado 'Taboo', que já tem um primeiro single: You Girl; 'Taboo' deve ser lançado em 2010, após a Tour do The E.N.D.

The END

Eles deixam um pouco o hip hop de lado e abriram espaço para ritmos eletrônicos.
O título "E.N.D." é uma alusão às especulações de que Fergie, Will.i.am, Taboo e Apl.de.ap iriam desmontar a banda e se dedicar apenas a projetos-solo.

Especulações à parte, o resultado é um petardo concebido para explodir pistas de dança em todos os continentes.

Logo de cara, a faixa "Boom Boom Pow" soa como se o duo eletrônico Daft Punk participasse de uma sessão de pancadão da Furação 2000 na Baixada Fluminense. "I Gotta Feeling" é uma balada pop daquelas grudentas.

E Fergie gera belos momentos soltando a voz doce em "Meet Me Halfway". [Pablo Nogueira]
