A lista foi feita com a ajuda de "gay experts", como Boy George, Rufus Wainwright e Cyndi Lauper, informou o Out.com. Segundo os time responsável pela seleção, os álbuns escolhidos "não incluem somente músicos homossexuais, mas qualquer disco que tenha relevância na votação".
Além de David Bowie, a lista inclui nomes como The Smiths, Indigo Girls, Elton John, Madonna e Cyndi Lauper.
